If my loved one declines in health or mobility, does he/she have to move from Balsam House?
Most likely not. We believe that an age in place philosophy is by far the most natural and comfortable, so once we receive a new resident in, we are already planning to successfully navigate any changes in health or mobility. While we cannot guarantee a permanent stay, we have a very high success rate of taking our residents through to end of life.
Does Medicare cover any of Balsam House costs?
The direct costs of assisted living facilities are not covered by Medicare. However, Medicare does cover many home health services that support your loved one’s stay at Balsam House.
Does Balsam House accept long term care insurance?
Yes we work with those who have long term care ins. policies, which can cover anywhere from some to nearly all of Balsam House’s costs, depending on the policy.
Does Balsam House take MaineCare?
Currently Balsam House is not set up to work with MaineCare.
Does Balsam House take people with dementia?
Yes. We have worked well in the past with mild to moderate dementia. However, those who exit seek are not a good fit.
If my loved one has special dietary restrictions, can Balsam House accommodate those needs?
Yes. Working with primary care physicians, our kitchen and nursing staff are able to create and serve an excellent therapeutic meal plan.
Do you allow home services (such as PT, OT, Nursing or Hospice) to come in to Balsam House?
You will find the above mentioned home health services at our facility practically every day! we work closely with all types of professionals to keep our residents comfortable and going strong. we very much appreciate the support and wisdom (not to mention extreme caring) hospice teams in our area have given over the Years.
